Question by Ash1227: FHA mortgage?
How would you apply for one? I found their website but it doesn’t offer an application.
I live in the state of
NY

  1. You can’t apply directly to the FHA, they are a mortgage insurer not a direct lender. Most banks and some brokers have access to FHA loana programs.

  2. If FHA is what you want, you need to go to a bank, or some brokers. Not all brokers offer FHA loans.

    Click the link for a listing of all state’s housing finance agencies. You’re in NY, there’s 3 of them listed. Contact them.

    They’ll have first-time buyer classes you can take. They’ll have info on subsidies and grants you may qualify for. They’ll have referrals to participating lenders (every one of which will offer FHA loans). All their lenders have made a commitment to affordable housing, so you should avoid getting screwed by using their referrals.
